Exporting & digital signatures

Export a marked-up PDF, flattened or editable, choose pages, and seal it with your digital ID.

When a set is ready to leave Notch, export it as a PDF — with your markups burned in, or still editable in other PDF tools — and, if it needs it, sign it with your digital ID.

Export a PDF#

Choose Export… from the n menu's File menu (Ctrl+P, or ⌘P on Mac), or the Export quick action on the workspace home. Then pick:

  • Flattened — markups become part of the document. Best for sharing and printing.
  • Unflattened — markups stay editable in Bluebeam, Acrobat and other PDF tools.

What to include — tick Markups, Measurements and Page overlays independently. Pages — All pages, the Current page, or Custom… ranges like 1-3, 5. Options — Compress file to shrink it, Desaturate to turn the drawing grey so your markups stand out.

The export runs in the background: keep working, follow it on the bell in the top bar, and the download starts on its own when it's ready. In the apps the sheet shows Export ready with Open and Share… — share it on, save it to Files, or print it from there.

Your markups round-trip#

Unflattened exports keep each markup as a standard PDF annotation, so a reviewer in Bluebeam or Acrobat can still move and edit them. Going the other way, when you upload a PDF that already carries markups from those tools, Notch imports them as editable markups automatically.

Digital signatures#

A placed signature is a picture of your hand. A digital signature seals the PDF with your digital ID, so anyone can check who signed it and that it hasn't changed since.

  1. Create your digital ID once, under Settings → Resources → Signatures (Digital Certification). Enter your name as it should appear on documents and your email — or Import an existing .p12 / .pfx ID with its password.
  2. Place your signature on the document (X).
  3. Export with Digitally sign turned on, then Sign & export.

Signed exports are always flattened, cover every page, and include everything on the document. If teammates placed signatures too, theirs are applied as well — but a teammate's signature placed before later edits needs them to re-confirm first. The export dialog says what's holding it up.

Revoking your digital ID (same page) destroys its signing key. PDFs you already exported stay valid, and you can create a new ID afterwards.

Exporting data#

  • The Measurements panel's Export CSV saves the takeoff as a spreadsheet.
  • The worksheet exports whatever view you've set up — see The worksheet.
