Selecting & editing markups
Select, move, resize, rotate, flip, copy, restyle and arrange anything on the sheet.
Everything you draw stays a live object. Select it with the Select tool (V) and you can move it, reshape it, restyle it, or delete it at any time.
Selecting#
- Click an object to select it.
- Drag on an empty part of the page to draw a selection box, or use Lasso select (Shift+O) to draw around an odd shape.
- Hold Shift while clicking or dragging to add to the selection; hold Ctrl (⌘ on Mac) to remove from it.
- Right-click an empty part of the page for Select all on page.
Whatever you select opens in the Properties panel. Select several markups (or several measurements) and a change there applies to all of them; a mix of markups, measurements and overlays shows a count instead.
Moving, resizing, rotating#
- Drag a selection to move it. The arrow keys nudge it; Shift + an arrow nudges ×10.
- Drag a handle to resize, or a vertex to reshape a line or polygon.
- Rotate by dragging just outside a corner of the selection — hold Shift to snap to 15° steps — or type an angle in Rotation (∠) in Properties, where the buttons turn it 90° at a time.
- Flip horizontally or vertically from Properties.
With two or more objects selected, they move together, and Rotate in the right-click menu or the Properties rotate buttons turn the whole selection as one block about its shared centre. Dragging the ring outside the group's corners does the same with a mouse or trackpad — on the web, and in the apps on a Mac or an iPad with a trackpad. On touch, use the menu or Properties.
The right-click menu#
Right-click a selection (long-press in the apps) for:
- Copy, Cut, Paste, and Duplicate (Ctrl+D duplicates in place).
- Copy style / Paste style — put one markup's look onto others.
- Set as default style — new markups of that type start in this style in this browser; Reset default style goes back.
- Order — Bring to front, Bring forward, Send backward, Send to back (Ctrl+] / Ctrl+[, add Shift for front and back).
- Rotate left or right.
- Layer — move it to a layer, or a New layer….
- Properties and Delete.
Some objects add their own entries: a sequence tag offers Insert before and Insert after, a callout or drafting tag Add leader, and a count mark can select its whole count group.
The Edit menu under the n has Cut, Copy, Paste, Copy style and Paste style too.
While drawing#
- Hold Shift to lock a line to 45° steps.
- Snapping pulls the cursor onto the drawing's line work, the grid and other markups (switch each on under Snap in the status strip). Hold Ctrl (⌘ on Mac) to place a point without snapping.
Undo and history#
Ctrl+Z undoes and Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes. Mid-shape, undo takes back the last point instead. The History panel lists your edits this session — click an entry to jump the document back to that point.
