Working offline

Keep drawings on your device, mark up with no connection, and let Notch send your edits when you're back online.

Job sites don't always have signal. Notch keeps the drawings you choose on your device, and anything you draw while offline is saved there and sent the moment you reconnect.

Keep a drawing on this device#

Open the drawing, then choose Keep on this device from the n menu's File menu. Notch downloads the file and everything it needs to open it, and the same menu item shows how it's going:

  • Downloading… while it fetches;
  • Kept on this device with its size — click it to remove the copy;
  • Device copy out of date — click to update it after the drawing changed;
  • Download failed — click to try again.

Kept drawings open and take markups with no connection. Keeping is always your choice, drawing by drawing — Notch never fills your device on its own.

Settings → Account → Offline lists everything you've kept on this device and how much space it uses, with Update and Retry where needed.

Editing without a connection#

Keep working as normal. Your edits are saved on the device, and the cloud icon in the editor header shows Offline with the number of edits waiting. When you're back online they're sent in order and the icon returns to Saved.

If an edit can't be saved — the markup was deleted by someone else, or you no longer have permission — the cloud icon's menu lists it with a reason, so you can retry or discard it. Nothing is dropped silently.

In the apps#

The iPhone, iPad and Mac apps work the same way: Keep on this device is in the n menu's File menu, and Settings → Account → Offline lists what's kept. PDFs on your Local Drive are always on the device — see Notch on iPhone, iPad & Mac.
