Using Notch with Claude & other AI assistants
Connect Claude or any MCP client to Notch so it can read your drawings and place markups and measurements with you.
Notch has an MCP server, so AI assistants like Claude can work in your drawings with you: list your drawings, read markups and takeoffs, place markups and measurements, answer comments and export PDFs. The assistant acts as you — it sees exactly what you can see in Notch, and nothing else.
Connect Claude#
- In Notch, open Workspace settings → API & MCP.
- Click Connect to Claude. Claude opens with Notch filled in.
- Click Add, then Connect, and sign in to Notch when asked.
Or, in Claude, open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector and paste
https://notch.build/api/mcp.
Other assistants#
Any MCP client that supports remote servers with sign-in can connect. Use the
server URL https://notch.build/api/mcp and sign in to Notch when prompted.
What the assistant can do#
- Read — workspaces, projects, drawings and pages, markups, measurements, layers, tags, comments, share links and connected cloud drives.
- Create and edit — markups, measurements, page scales, layers, custom columns, comments, tags, overlays and exports.
- Delete or overwrite — deleting markups, measurements, layers, comments and tags; revoking share links; publishing your markups back over the source file in your cloud drive. Your assistant should ask you before any of these.
Every tool is labelled as read-only, editing or destructive, so assistants like Claude know when to check with you first.
Disconnect#
Remove Notch under Claude's Settings → Connectors, or revoke the session in Notch under Workspace settings → API & MCP → Active sessions.
This is separate from Notch AI, the assistant built into the editor.
